Saman Zarrabi was born in 1974 in Tehran and began his music studies in santur playing with Saeed Sabet in 1985. After three years he finished Payvar's Elementary Course of Santur, and then continued his studies with Nader Sinaki until reaching the advanced level. By 2000 he attended master classes held by Ostad Faramarz Payvar, reviewing and playing all his published and hand-written works for Santur during four years.
In 2003 he began to study classical guitar playing with Pezhman Rahimian, as well as attending a brief course with Keyvan Mirhadi. A year later he studied the techniques of vocal writing with Ostad Hoseyn Dehlavi. Zarrabi is also familiar with tombak playing.
